Henry Co, IA – Jean Lobanga Suffers Injuries in Semi Accident on US-34
Henry Co, IA (July 10, 2021) – There were multiple injuries reported after a semi-truck struck a passenger car in Henry County on Friday, July 9.
Emergency personnel was dispatched to the scene located near mile marker 231 on US-34. An 18-wheeler and a personal vehicle reportedly collided at the crash site. According to local reports, Jean Lobanga of Iowa City was driving a 2008 Ford Focus at the time of impact.
Lobanga was reportedly traveling at a slow rate of speed with flashing lights engaged. A semi-truck owned by Niece Trucking and operated by Patrick Howard was following the vehicle. Howard told authorities that he was retrieving a dropped water bottle and failed to notice the speed of Lobanga’s vehicle. This resulted in the 18-wheeler rear-ending the Ford, sending both vehicles into a nearby ditch.
A passenger in the Ford was flown to a hospital, while Lobanga and another passenger were also hospitalized for treatment. Howard was cited for failure to maintain control.
An ongoing investigation into the crash is in progress.
We wish the injured parties a speedy recovery. If we can assist with the recovery, please contact the firm.
18-Wheeler Collisions in Iowa
Every year, there are over 500,000 transportation accidents, resulting in thousands of injuries and fatalities. The bulk of products and freight are transported by massive big rigs across the country, and their immense weight puts individuals in passenger vehicles on the road at risk. According to national accident data, smaller car occupants are more likely than larger car occupants to suffer life-threatening injuries in a collision, and these events are known to be lethal.
Thousands of people are killed or injured every year in commercial vehicle accidents, with the bulk of those killed or injured being passengers in passenger automobiles. Truck drivers who lack the skills necessary to properly operate such huge vehicles risk causing devastating Iowa trucking accidents, which all too often result in the death or injury of innocent persons. Although all drivers must follow the same set of rules, operating a large truck demands a higher level of competence and knowledge. It is risky to travel behind huge semi-trucks and tractor-trailers, which is why many Iowa drivers are anxious whenever they pass a truck or other large vehicle on the road.
The weight and gravity of these massive vehicles may cause life-altering injuries in the event of an accident, and the number of fatalities linked to semi-trucks has been gradually growing across the country.
