Council Bluffs, IA (June 12, 2021) – On Wednesday, June 9, three people suffered injuries in the aftermath of a two-vehicle crash involving a Freightliner in Council Bluffs.
Local reports indicated that the incident occurred at the intersection of US-275 and NE-92. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, a 2010 Nissan Murano and a white Freightliner dump truck collided at the scene. Sources revealed that the truck was hauling sand while traveling eastbound as the Nissan was driving west, attempting to make a left turn at the intersection.
The Nissan entered the path of the dump truck, and the two vehicles crashed. The driver of the Nissan was transported to Nebraska Medicine for the treatment of a broken hip. A passenger of the Nissan was flown to the hospital for the treatment of a life-threatening brain injury. Another occupant was also injured. No other injuries were reported.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being managed by local officials, and more information will be provided as it progresses.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Freightliner Crashes in Iowa
Commercial trucks transport the bulk of cargo in the United States, and these massive vehicles can endanger people in passenger cars. Smaller vehicle occupants are more likely to suffer life-threatening injuries in the event of a collision, according to national crash data. Over 500,000 transport accidents are reported each year, resulting in thousands of fatalities. Someone is killed or hurt every 15 seconds in a tractor-trailer or semi-truck collision. In 2019, around 67 percent of fatal semi-truck collisions involved casualties in personal autos.
It’s fundamentally risky to share the road with massive semi-trucks and tractor-trailers, which is why many Iowa drivers experience great anxiety when passing an 18-wheeler or commercial truck. Each year, thousands of individuals are killed in collisions involving commercial vehicles, with the vast majority of those victims being passengers in personal automobiles. All drivers must obey the same rules on the road, but driving a gigantic big rig takes a lot more ability and expertise. Truck drivers who lack the proper experience to operate big trucks are at risk of creating catastrophic Iowa trucking accidents, which far too often result in the deaths of innocent people.
Trucking fatalities have continued to grow across the country due to the weight and size of these large vehicles, which can cause life-changing injuries in the event of a collision. At Lombardi Law Firm, we understand that semi-truck-accident injuries frequently necessitate long-term care and can leave victims with life-long emotional and physical stress, and we can fight for the full value of your claim to ensure that these damages are compensated.
