Pottawattamie Co, IA – Callie Derfinlinger Killed in Semi Crash on I-80
Pottawattamie Co, IA (May 27, 2021) – A Johnston woman was killed after being involved in a collision with a semi-truck in Pottawattamie County on Wednesday, May 26.
The deadly crash occurred on Interstate 80 at the 35.5-mile marker at around 11:08 a.m. that morning. Local reports revealed that one driver, 35-year-old Callie Rose Lisa Derfinlinger of Johnston, suffered fatal injuries in the impact. She was taken to Avoca Rescue to Myrtue Medical Center by emergency responders where she later succumbed to her injuries.
According to local sources, Derfinlinger was driving westbound on the highway in a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck. Ahead of her was a 2020 Peterbilt 389 semi-truck operated by Stanley Dean Rottinghaus of Waterloo. Shortly after entering a construction zone with a reduced speed limit, Derfinlinger crashed into the rear of the commercial truck.
An ongoing investigation into the deadly crash is underway.
