Muscatine, IA (May 19, 2021) – On Sunday, May 16, a two-vehicle collision in the Muscatine area left one man with fatal injuries.
The fatal crash took place at around 2:17 p.m. at the intersection of US-61 and 41st Street. The Iowa State Patrol reported that Jill Lovell of Muscatine was traveling southeast on 41st Street in a 2004 Buick LaSabre at the time of the accident. Local reports revealed that Lovell failed to yield while crossing the highway and was hit by a 2006 Honda CRV driven by Oliva L. Dans of Mediapolis.
A Wapello man, James E. Laing, was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, it has not been revealed which vehicle Laing was traveling in. Lovell was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for the treatment of sustained injuries. Dans was also injured in the accident. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal crash is underway.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of James E. Laing at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
