Burlington, IA – Deadly Fire at Apt Complex on Washington St

Burlington, IA (August 26, 2021) – A woman was killed in a fire at an apartment complex in Burlington on Tuesday, August 24. 

The fatal incident took place at a residence located at the 1126 block of Washington Street. Emergency responders were sighted at the scene at around 7 a.m. that morning. When firefighters arrived, they found a two-story apartment house on fire. 

Initial reports revealed that there were people trapped inside the structure. The building sustained significant damage and was a total loss. Two involved parties suffered injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Firefighters located Samantha M. Hoenig inside the building. She was transported to a medical facility where she was later pronounced dead. 

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the blaze is currently in progress.
