Algona, IA – Randy Dean Meyer Dies Due to Exposure at Facility on US-169
Algona, IA (September 9, 2021) – An accident at a hog facility outside of Algona on Saturday, September 4, ended in the death of a Whittemore man.
Local reports revealed that 33-year-old Randy Dean Meyer was pronounced dead at MercyOne North Iowa on Monday, September 6. Meyer was taken to the medical facility after being airlifted to Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona two days prior. Emergency crews were called to the site of the accident at around 10:15 a.m. Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at a hog facility located at the 1701 block of US-169. Local firefighters equipped with a breathing apparatus rescued Meyer from the lagoon area. The victim was reportedly a local farmer who was in the process of transporting the contents of the lagoon. The facility was owned by Roethler Farms of Algona. No further information has been presented at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being handled by local authorities.
