Slater, IA – Mary Nienow Fatally Hit in Parade Accident at Main St & Tama StDes Moines Accident News
Slater, IA (July 5, 2021) – An Minnesota woman was killed and multiple others injured after a serious accident in the Slater area at an Independence Day Parade on Saturday, July 3.
The deadly crash occurred near the intersection of Main Street and Tama Street. The Iowa State Patrol revealed that 59-year-old Mary Nienow of Albert Lea, Minnesota sustained fatal injuries in the incident. A 2007 Hyundai Sonata was reportedly parked on the street during the parade when the 75-year-old woman from Cambridge reversed, hitting multiple people.
A total of four pedestrians were dragged underneath the vehicle, including Nienow. Three other people were also injured, including a 67-year-old woman, a 30-year-old woman and a 6-year-old child, all from Huxley. No further information has been provided at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
