Rock Rapids, IA – Deland Harkness Injured in Pileup Crash on US-75
Rock Rapids, IA (October 22, 2021) – On Wednesday, October 20, a multi-vehicle collision in Rock Rapids resulted in injuries.
The accident was reported that afternoon at around 2:35 p.m. that afternoon. The scene was located at the intersection of US-75 and 210th Street. Initial reports indicated that 57-year-old Robert Keith Winegarden of Pocahontas was driving a 2007 Peterbilt semi southbound on the highway.
Winegarden reportedly failed to stop and crashed into a 1991 Buick Le Sabre driven by 22-year-old Deland Harkness of Larchwood. This caused Harkness to strike a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by a 17-year-old Doon teen. Harkness had to be extricated from his vehicle and was taken to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids for treatment.
An ongoing accident investigation is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
