Marcus, IA – Two Workers Rescued from Grain Elevator on D Ave
Marcus, IA (August 11, 2021) – There were confirmed injuries following an accident at a grain elevator in Marcus on Monday, August 9.
The incident occurred at the First Cooperative Elevator located on D Avenue. At around 4 p.m. that afternoon, emergency responders were called to the scene. When officials arrived, they found that two employees were trapped inside.
Emergency crews were able to enter the elevator and provide oxygen and fluids to the trapped parties. There were several EMS workers that had to be rotated in order to clear the elevator or grain while providing aid to the victims. It took two hours to rescue the workers, who were rushed to MercyOne Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. The identities of the injured parties have not been revealed at this time.
An ongoing accident investigation is being managed by local law enforcement officials. No further updates on the accident have been revealed at this time.
