Cherokee Co, IA – Naomi Benna Dies in Pileup Crash on CR C63
Cherokee Co, IA (June 11, 2021) – A three-vehicle crash in Cherokee County resulted in the death of a Storm Lake woman on Thursday, June 10.
Local reports revealed that the fatal accident occurred on County Road C63 at around 10:18 a.m. that morning. According to local officials, a 2018 GMC Terrain driven by 76-year-old Denise Betts of Alta was traveling west on the roadway at the time of the impact. Betts reportedly rear-ended a county grader operated by 46-year-old Kelly Ebel of Cherokee.
It was at that time that a Victory motorcycle operated by 74-year-old Everett Paeper of Aurelia crashed into the GMC. A passenger in the SUV, 97-year-old Naomi Benna of Storm Lake, suffered critical injuries and was taken to Cherokee Regional Medical Center for the treatment of life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving measures, she was later pronounced dead. Both Betts and Paeper sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized.
An ongoing investigation into the fatal car accident is underway. More details will be provided as it continues.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Naomi Benna at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
