Cedar Rapids, IA – Update: John Friend Dies in Pileup Crash on IA-150
Cedar Rapids, IA (October 19, 2021) – A three-car crash in Cedar Rapids left two dead and another injured on Monday, October 18.
The accident occurred on IA-500 that afternoon at around 2:55 p.m. Local reports revealed that 40-year-old Nicholas Johnson of Oelwein was headed southbound on the highway in a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. Johnson reportedly crossed the centerline and collided with a northbound 2006 Toyota Sienna driven by 70-year-old John Friend of Davenport.
Debris from the crash ricocheted and hit a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe. Both Johnson and Friend suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, 65-year-old Pamela Robinson of Davenport, was taken to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City for treatment.
An ongoing accident investigation is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
