New Hampton, IA (August 29, 2021) – A train derailment in the New Hampton area resulted in confirmed injuries on Sunday, August 29.
The incident was reported at around 4 p.m. The derailment resulted in a leak of diesel fuel and anhydrous ammonia. This prompted an evacuation of the general area.
The accident occurred on 220th Street near Jasper Avenue and Ivanhoe Avenue. The area was closed for several hours while multiple emergency response units worked the scene. Both the train engineer and conductor were transported to MercyOne New Hampton for the treatment of sustained injuries. At this time, no additional injuries have been reported.
