Fort Dodge, IA – Melissa Ristau Fatally Hit on Bike at 8th Ave & 31st St
Fort Dodge, IA (June 16, 2021) – A Fort Dodge woman was killed after being involved in a bicycle accident on Tuesday morning, June 15.
Local authorities revealed that the victim was struck at around 9:30 a.m. that morning at the intersection of 8th Avenue S. and S. 31st Street. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, where they found the woman lying unresponsive on the roadway. The deceased party was later identified as 65-year-old Melissa Ristau of Fort Dodge.
According to local reports, Ristau was crossing at the intersection on a tricycle when she was hit by an oncoming 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 pickup truck. The truck, driven by 18-year-old Peyten Rasmussen of Goldfield, had reportedly made a left turn onto 31st Avenue. Ristau was pronounced dead at the scene.
No further updates have been provided at this time. Local authorities are managing the ongoing investigation into the deadly bicycle crash.
