Mount Vernon, IA – UPDATE: Kyle Goodell Dies in Semi-Truck Crash on IA-1
Mount Vernon, IA (August 2, 2021) – Authorities have released the identity of the man killed following a two-vehicle crash in the Cedar Rapids area on Saturday, July 31.
The fatal incident reportedly took place early that morning just south of Mount Vernon. Local reports revealed that 22-year-old Kyle Goodell was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry on IA-1 at the time of the collision. At around 9:55 a.m., Goodell crashed head-on with an oncoming 18-wheeler.
Emergency responders were sent to the scene to provide aid to the injured parties. Goodell sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by attending medical personnel. The impact caused wreckage to be strewn across the highway. EMS was present to clear the interstate of related debris. Both vehicles left the roadway and were found in opposing ditches.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly collision is currently in progress.
