Sioux Center, IA – Eric Pauli Injured After Driver Runs Stop Sign at US-75 & 20th St
Sioux Center, IA (June 1, 2021) – A two-vehicle crash in Sioux Center on Thursday, May 27, sent seven people to the hospital.
Local authorities were called to the scene of the accident at around 7:25 a.m. that morning. Initial reports revealed that 27-year-old Eric Pauli of Brandon was traveling northbound on US-75 in a 2013 Ford van at the time of impact. At the same time, a 2009 GMC SUV driven by 22-year-old Maria Lopez-Martin was traveling west on 20th Street SE.
Lopez-Martin reportedly ran a stop sign at the intersection, entering into the path of the Ford. Despite attempting an evasive maneuver to avoid the crash, Pauli was unable to do so and collided with the driver-side of the SUV. The impact caused the SUV to enter a ditch where its passenger side crashed into a tree.
Lopez-Martin and a passenger in her vehicle were transported to Sioux Center Health Hospital, while five occupants in Pauli’s vehicle were taken to the same medical facility for treatment.
An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.
Our thoughts are with Eric Pauli, Maria Lopez-Martin, the injured victims, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
