Mason City, IA – Matt Hoveland Injured in Fatal Semi Crash on California Ave
Mason City, IA (September 16, 2021) – A Waterloo man was killed and an Osage man was injured after two vehicles crashed on Wednesday, September 15.
The deadly accident occurred on California Avenue at IA-122, near the entrance for the NIACC campus. At around 5:39 a.m. that morning, 52-year-old Amar Pinjo of Waterloo was traveling southbound in a Freitlighter truck on California Avenue. He reportedly ran a stop sign and crashed with a pickup truck operated by 57-year-old Matt Hoveland of Osage.
Pinjo was ejected from his rig. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead by attending medical personnel. Hoveland was extracted from his vehicle by emergency crews. He was then transported to MercyOne North Iowa for the treatment of sustained injuries.
No further information has been provided at this time. An ongoing crash investigation is underway.
