Motorcycle Accidents in Iowa
Many Iowa residents enjoy the pastime of riding motorcycles, and it is extremely common across the state. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 80% of motorcycle collisions end in serious injury or death, and motorcyclists are almost 27 times more likely to die in a vehicle accident than passengers in other vehicles. Despite the fact that it is common knowledge that motorcycle riders are more likely to be injured in a collision, many vehicles fail to share the road with motorcycle riders, resulting in disastrous crashes.
By design, motorcycles place their riders at greater risk of serious injury. Motorcycle crashes are over-represented in national roadway fatalities, and the number of motorcyclists killed in traffic accidents is on the rise. There were 5,014 riders killed in crashes across the United States in 2009.
