Dubuque, IA – Haley Smith Injured After Drive Fails to Yield at Locust and Charter St

Dubuque, IA (May 22, 2021) – There were multiple injuries following a two-car collision in the Dubuque area on Thursday, May 20. 

Local reports revealed that the accident took place at the intersection of S. Locust Street and Charter Street. At around 7:20 a.m. that morning, 65-year-old Thomas A. McNamer of Dubuque was traveling on Locust Street when he attempted to make a left turn onto Charter Street. At the same time, 18-year-old Haley L. Smith of Sherill was traveling southbound on Locust. 

McNamer failed to yield to Smith’s vehicle, causing an accident. Both McNamer and Smith were transported to UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. A passenger in Smith’s vehicle, 39-year-old Phillip W. French of Dubuque, was also hospitalized. 

McNamer was cited by authorities for failure to yield. An ongoing investigation into the collision is underway.
