Avery, IA – Update: Kyle Redinger Injured in Crash with Amtrak on 160th St
Avery, IA (October 28, 2021) – Authorities have released the identities of those who were hurt during a crash involving an Amtrak train in Avery on Wednesday, October 27.
The Iowa State Patrol reported that 33-year-old Kyle Redinger of Fairfield was driving a garbage truck on 160th Street at the time of the crash. As he crossed a railway track, the vehicle was struck by an oncoming Amtrak train. The impact caused Redinger to be thrown from his vehicle.
Emergency responders were seen at the scene at around 12 p.m. that afternoon. Redinger sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. The Nebraska woman conducting the train was also injured but refused treatment at the scene.
An ongoing accident investigation is being handled by local authorities.
