Fairfield, IA – Rhonda Short Injured in ATV Accident on Quince Ave
Fairfield, IA (August 31, 2021) – A woman from Southeast Iowa suffered serious injuries in the aftermath of a crash involving two all-terrain vehicles outside of Fairfield on Saturday, August 28.
The incident occurred in Jefferson County on Quince Avenue. A group of people were riding ATVs along the road at around 3:30 p.m. that afternoon. Local reports revealed that dust from the gravel road may have impaired the visibility of the operators.
One of the ATVs reportedly rear-ended another. Sources indicated that 50-year-old Thad Short of Brighton was the operator of the moving ATV. He was not injured in the crash. However, his passenger, 54-year-old Rhonda Short also from Brighton, suffered serious injuries. She was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for treatment.
No other injuries were reported in the accident. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being handled by local law enforcement officials.
