Cedar Rapids, IA – Robert Wesley Mischek Injured in Fire on Ashton Pl
Cedar Rapids, IA (May 9, 2021) – A man was injured following an apartment fire in the Cedar Rapids area on Thursday, May 6.
The site of the blaze was located at the Valley View Apartments at the 427 block of Ashton Place NE. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene where they found 82-year-old Robert Wesley Mischedck unconscious on the floor. Emergency responders were notified of the incident early that morning near the time of 1 a.m.
The fire broke out in a unit on the third floor of the complex due to a malfunctioning air conditioning unit. The flames were so large that they were observable from outside the building. Mischeck was transferred to a nearby room where he was treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility.
Mischek was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for the treatment of life-threatening injuries. An ongoing investigation into the fire is underway.
