In this first crash it appears the at-fault-driver driving a Deere UTV was riding on the shoulder and turned directly in front of an GMC Terrain that plowed into it and unfortunately the UTV driver was killed. The UTV’s are an inexpensive way to check on fields and land by the owner. What you can’t do is sort of be lulled into believing you are the only one out there using the road.
Iowa Highway 9 is the most northern of Iowa’s east–west highways, traversing the entire northern tier of counties.
Here is the minimal crash report from the Iowa State Patrol. For more detailed information one would need to order the entire Iowa State Patrol Technical Report. That report would include photographs and measurements with a more detailed description.

ACCIDENT NUMBER TWO
This next report from the Iowa State Patrol occurred in Bremer County, Iowa on Highway 63. The Freightliner semi slowed to allow traffic on Highway 63 to clear the intersection. A Dodge Caravan coming from behind rear-ended the semi, according to the report, and the driver was fatally injured.
There may be issues of workers’ compensation death benefits, or Social Security Survivor Benefits or there may be no additional issues. It is an unfortunate accident with extremely serious consequences. What can we all learn from this accident? Even though we do not know if texting applies to the cause, we should not be texting while driving. In the practice of law in Iowa, I see far too many accidents caused by cell phone usage.
