Delaware Co, IA – Sharon Allen Injured in Head-On Crash at IA-13 & Co Hwy D42
Delaware Co, IA (July 22, 2021) – On Tuesday, July 20, there were two reported injuries following a head-on crash in Delaware County.
Initial accounts revealed that the collision took place north of Ryan near the intersection of IA-13 and County Highway D42. The Iowa State Patrol was notified of the incident that morning at around 10:15 a.m. At the time of the accident, 78-year-old Larry Fuller of Central City was traveling southbound in a pickup truck when he veered into northbound traffic to pass a motorcycle.
This is when Fuller crashed head-on with an oncoming SUV. Both vehicles came to an abrupt halt, with the pickup leaving the roadway. Two occupants of the SUV had to be extricated by emergency personnel. The driver of the SUV, 60-year-old Donald Allen of Manchester, was taken to Regional Medical Center in Manchester for treatment. His passenger, 61-year-old Sharon Allen also from Manchester, was flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City in serious condition. The area was closed for several hours while authorities were present.
An ongoing investigation into the crash is currently being managed by local authorities.
